What is an IPL Photofacial?

Intense pulsed light, or IPL, photofacials are skin treatments that penetrate the skin with energy. These types of photofacials penetrate to the second layer of skin where significant signs of aging develop. Age spots and other types of hyperpigmentation absorb the energy, and this causes the pigment to break apart. The treatment is also effective for smaller veins in the skinthat may be damaged, such as spider veins and broken capillaries, as well as redness associated with rosacea.

The IPL Photofacial Treatment

A typical IPL photofacial treatment takes 30 minutes or less. We clean the skin and apply a cooling gel to keep you comfortable during the treatment. A handheld device is placed on theskin and used to deliver the IPL energy. You may feel a slight stinging sensation. We may recommend a series of treatments to achieve the desired results.

The IPL treatment feels like a light snap or flick on the surface of the skin. If you find it too uncomfortable, let us know, and we can adjust the treatment accordingly!

Your skin can feel warm, like a sunburn, with some redness, but other than that, you really shouldn’t feel any different. Make sure to follow our instructions for before and after your treatment by taking care of your skin.

Avoid tanning for at least 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after your treatment, and wear sunscreen. You should also avoid hot baths, massages, or any treatment that requires direct contact with the skin for the first 2 days after your treatment. You can apply makeup directly after your appointment, however make sure to apply SPF beforehand.
